Haven's Presentation to Stroke
Association
Great Yarmouth Haven
Rotary Club and the Stroke Association join forces to raise £450 to
purchase software for stroke patient Philip McHardy. The presentation
to Philip was undertaken by the Chairman of the Community Service
Committee Robert Lovick and Bridget Lowe from the Stroke Association,
who first highlighted Philip’s need for such equipment. The software
which is called ‘React2’, contains many exercises that are structured to
suit different levels of difficulties and more varied speech therapy
options. Philip had a stroke 7 years ago as a result of a motorcycle
accident in France . He is unable to work and relies daily on his wife
Debbie and his two children, however he does have regular contact with a
volunteer speech conversationalist who visits the home. With this new
software Philip is able to access all the programmes on his laptop at a
time and at a pace that’s suits him. The Stroke Association are always
looking for Volunteers to work with those whose communication has been
affected as a result of suffering a stroke. There is no doubt that this
work would greatly enhance the quality of life for patients and give
much satisfaction in the knowledge that you are helping others when they
need it most.
If you feel that
you would like to learn more about becoming involved as a volunteer,
please do not hesitate to contact Robert Lovick on 01692 670076 or
visit the Stroke Association Web Site for more information about the
local services provided.
