Born 1945
in Bolton Lancashire. Moved to Great Yarmouth in 1954. Served a five
year plumbing apprenticeship before joining the oil industry in 1966 and then
traveled the World. Left the oil industry in 1985 to start my own
business. Met and married Janette in 1969, we have two children Aaron (29)
& Shane (26). I, along with my son Shane, own and operate the
Longbar Complex in Great Yarmouth - A large fun pub on Great Yarmouth
Seafront. My hobbies are: skiing, diving, sailing, travel &
entertaining my three wonderful grandchildren.
I
joined Rotary in 1993 and have served on Community Service &
International Committees. I was also Youth Exchange Officer. I very
much enjoy the fellowship and charitable activities in Rotary and wished I had
been "found" sooner.
Highs
and Lows.
The
high points of my year.
1.
Presenting Rotarian and Hon Sec Tony King with his Four Avenue of Service Award
at our President’s Ladies Night. This was especially rewarding, as there
were only 60 of these granted worldwide in 2003.
2. Awarding
Rotarian of the year to Rotarian Ian McCreadie for the great work he had
done for our club in particular and Rotary in general. This was a
particular pleasure as I was instrumental in inviting Ian to join our club.
3.
Rewarding my wife Janette (with a Rotary Teapot!) at Presidents Ladies Night for
her continued support which had enabled me to join Rotary in the first instance!
4.
Having the honour of being able to lead and represent a Rotary Club such as Great
Yarmouth Haven which is acknowledged as second to none with regards to its
members’ commitment to friendship and making a difference to the worldwide
community.
5.
Being asked to accept the position of Assistant Governor by my good friend and
Past District Governor Brian Baxter.
6.
Getting stick and sarcastic comments from Haven Rotarians on a regular
basis...........................priceless!
7.
Being served lunch first for 53 weeks (yes you were stuck with me for an extra
week as your President!)
The
only low point I can remember is getting served my meal last on the 54th week
(back down to earth with a bump!)
