When asked to recall events which occurred during my Presidential year it is
extremely difficult to pick out individual ones as so much happened to make
the year enjoyable.
From the Club’s point of view, I can recall induction of this
year’s President, Monty Spandler, and also of making one of our founder
members, Keith Horne, an Honorary Member of the Club.
Haven Rotary Club has always
been extremely grateful to Brian Potter for the assistance he has given in
raising funds for charity. During my year in office, Brian and his staff at
Potters Leisure Centre put on a show, which raised £5,173.26 for the Rotary
Kosovo Appeal. A cheque for this sum
was subsequently presented at the Club Assembly to Rotarian Brian Baxter, the
Assistant District Governor East at that time, who accepted the cheque on
behalf of the Rotary Charity Appeal.
The Club in the past has strong ties with Youth Exchange and in 1990
Michiko Yamada from Japan was hosted on a year’s exchange with the Club.
Rotarian Bill Cooke and his wife hosted Michiko for a few months, as did Alan
Spinks and Geoge Ermini, during her stay and kept in touch with her. Rotarian
Bill and his wife subsequently attended Michiko’s wedding in Yokohama as
representatives of the Haven Club.
