30th November 2005
A group of members and
their guests went to the Thursford Christmas Extravaganza show. After coach
pick-ups at Caister and Acle , the group arrived at Fakenham and had a nice
meal and drink in one of the hotels before proceeding to Thursford.
The show was fantastic
entertainment full of music and variety.

17th November
2005
Club Service Committee Meeting
Monday
Lunchtime Programme of Speakers Etc.
- It was reported that the
programme was arranged fully until Christmas. In the New Year it is
hoped to arrange the debate on the Paul Harris Foundation Awards. It is
hoped to be on Monday 12th January 2006. The evening meeting on 6th February
will feature Dr. Kingsley Branch as the speaker. The meeting will be open for
male guests. All members should know when they have to provide a speaker
until the end of the Rotary year.
Social
Events -
Arrangements for all the social events up to
Christmas have been finalised. Thursford Christmas Extravaganza
evening visit is Wednesday 30th November. Gorleston Pavilion show is
booked although not too many members are going, but those attending will get 2
glasses of champagne, some nibbles and the show for only £16. The three
Great Yarmouth Rotary clubs are presenting " An evening of Christmas
Music and Carols " at Christchurch, Deneside on Wednesday 14th
December. The choir of Roman Hill Middle School Lowestoft will be
featured. Admission FREE ! Any voluntary donations can be made on departure in
aid of local charity " BREAK " ( offering holiday respite for very
ill people ). The Ladies Christmas Dinner on Monday 19th December
will have entertainment provided by the Dusmagrik Theatre Group. There will be
a raffle with a limited number of very good prizes on offer. The
Club Council will be asked to recommend the invitation to Joan Stanley,
Valerie Jordan and Barbara Bluck as guests of the Club at this
event. The Presidents Ladies Night Dinner and Dance will be held
on Friday 7th April 2006. Arrangements for the venue and other details
at a later date.
Sport
- Nothing
to report
Membership
and Attendance
- Official membership still stands at 47 plus 2
honorary members but with John Hovell, T.C.Harry and Tim Watson on leave of
absence for the remainder of the Rotary year and David Bluck and Geoffrey
Denton with illness plus a number of members spending some time in holiday
homes abroad, the average weekly attendance is between 30 and 33. It is
thought that efforts should now be made to encourage new members to join, who
it is felt can be of use to the Club , but not just for numbers sake.
Finance
- The Committee has
no concerns over the finances of the Club ,and the income and operation of the
Potters " Teddy bears " was discussed and the outcome so far this
year is that income was up slightly but expenses were down , so the end result
was satisfactory. However members have shown their concern at the number
of "sorry" tickets coming up and that the public still liked to look
for winning numbers. Although there are adequate stocks of the old tickets ,
it was felt that the numbered tickets as in the past should be re-introduced.
Welfare
- Tony
Wortley has been actively involved in keeping up to date on the situation with
regard to David Bluck's illness and members have been informed on a regular
basis.
Public
Relations and Website - John
Westgate is still regularly supplying the Yarmouth Mercury with the Club notes
and Club News for the inclusion on our website.
He has indicated this is the last year that he will be doing the job. However,
from next July, Robert Lovick will take over. The Club website has
been designed by T.C.Harry over the last few years but due to his commitment
in his demanding work, he is no longer able to devote sufficient time to the
site. Alan Spinks will be updating and keeping the website "fresh"
and active but has asked all club members and Committee chairman ,to supply
the information necessary to run the site efficiently.
Links
with other Local Rotary Clubs - All
three Clubs will be involved in a Publicity event on Great Yarmouth Market
Place on Saturday 10th December, informing the public of the work of Rotary.
Each club will supply three members to man the stand through the day.
The committee was reminded of the joint programme for the three clubs of
" An Evening of Christmas Music and Carols" on Wednesday 14th
December.
Chairman
Bert Collins thanked Graham Plant for the use of his premises and the supply
of refreshments.
