Help the Aged No information is available but only 70p in the £1 goes to help the elderly

* This is a theoretical column only, as not all the charities funds are generated via the DEC

DONATION TO ROTARY, ON THE OTHER HAND

ROTARY FUNDS £1 0 0 0 0 0

ROTARY HAS ALL THE ADVANTAGES OF THE ABOVE WELL KNOWN CHARITIES.

ROTARY HAS NONE OF THE DISADVANTAGES OF ALL THE ABOVE WELL KNOWN CHARITIES.

When we make a contribution to Rotary, it is supervised almost always by other Rotarians.
This means: Rotary money goes further and Rotary money works harder. Nothing taken out!!

The above DEC Charities all do excellent work and the World would be a poorer place without them, this is just
an example to show the relative expenses compared to Rotary's zero expenses

Dear all,

I have been asked to check with you to see if you have sent your "Marmalade
Money" direct to Foundation as Jack Blyth - District Treasurer has no record
of your payments.

I would be grateful if you could let me or Jack know what you have done.

Latest update on situation from Archie Poulter District International
Chairman.

Hi Everyone
Great News
I am now advised by Frank Lund of Aqua box that the Aid Agency,  "Hope and
Aid Direct" are in a position to take a consignment of Aquaboxes, Shelter
Boxes and Emergency boxes to 2 or 3 villages in the devastated area in
Iran.,  260 Standard Aquaboxes and 50 Aqua 30's which will give approx 1.5
million litres of water purification. They have raided their funds to
finance the aqua 30's and anticipate further funding to provide more Aqua
30's.  As I write this the boxes are on the lorry and travelling along the
motorway on the first part of their journey. Also included in this
consignment will be some Shelter Boxes from Cornwall, (I do not know how
many) and about 60 Emergency boxes from Dukenfield.

Whilst this is an immediate priority there are still a call for boxes from
Handsworth Int'l Mission for Liberia/ Sierra Leone and Bulgaria!!
Franks comments
"And so it goes on!  The call for help is always there"
YOU CAN IMAGINE YOUR SUPPORT IS URGENTLY NEEDED

2nd January 2004

I have been asked to ask you all to please provide me with the following
information as soon as possible.

1. What your club has/plans to contribute to RIBI Presidents preferred
charities in 2003-4?

2. Expected/actual membership increase during 2003-4?

3. Your clubs centenary project (s)?

4. Names of Civic leaders posts in your area to enable formal invites to be
sent for centenary celebration event (s)

I would be very grateful for the information even if it is a zero return.

1st January 2004

Hello everyone
Second update
I have had no further information from the Rotary box organisations or aid
agencies since my last message.

I assume Aquabox are still trying to locate transport and a reliable
distribution agency.

However I did mention that the Red Cross have an appeal. You can obtain
more information on this appeal by visiting www.ifrc.org  On this site you
will find very detailed information of the needs with a fairly detailed
budget for the appeal.
To give you some idea of the immediate needs
20,000 Family tents
30,000 Plastic sheets or Tarpaulins
200,000 Blankets
40,000 Kitchen Sets
400,000 Water Purification Tablets
30    12KW Generators
20,000 Kerosene heaters
100,000 Litres of Kerosene

This is all just to sustain the minimum needs for life on top of this there
is also the requirement for food and medical care etc.

The IFRC  are also just beginning to carry out an assessment of the longer
term needs for Recovery, repair and  reconstruction. This will no doubt be
published in due course.
Happy New Year

30th December 2003

Current position as I understand it from RIBI International committee.

There is currently no formal RIBI appeal however the British Red Cross have launched an appeal and can be contacted on 0207 245 1000

110 Shelter Boxes have been sent via Manston Airport  for Distribution in BAM/Iran by the Iranian Red Crescent organisation.  Stocks of boxes now very low

Aqaboxes have available 180 Standard Aqaboxes and 30 Aquabox 30's and they will ship product as soon as the support services on the ground are ready to distribute and supervise their use (Information from Frank Lund Project Chairman)

International Rescue Corps have apparently done all they can and by now are most probably on the home

Reuters Foundation Website  www. alertnet.org  is probably the best source of current news on the ground.

Current thinking within the RIBI International Community is that one of the best ways to help would be to make direct cash donations to organisations such as Shelter Boxes
( www.shelterbox.org )  or to    Aquaboxs www.Aquabox.org  to enable them both to continue the work on the ground.

Clubs in making a donation need not pay for a whole unit (£460 for a shelter box complete and £250 for a Aqabox 30 ) but make a contribution to the whole, as I understand it all  donations received will be attributed to individual Clubs.

It has been suggested that we as a district raise moneys and send it in but I would strongly argue that there is no need for the District to stand between the Clubs and the providers accepting of course that I will do all I can to provide any assistance I can as International Chair
