Rotary
delight for our young and elderly citizens
In December The Great Yarmouth
Haven Rotary Club organised two events that helped our local senior
citizens to enjoy a late shopping evening at Asda, and students from the
John Grant School who experienced a theatre production of Annie
Warbucks at the Marina Centre.
Each year Rotarian's
assisted by The Norfolk County Transport Services and Centre 81 convey
senior citizens to the store where help is provided to enabling them do
some late night Christmas shopping. They are assisted around the store
by the Caister Air Training Corps and the 901 Troop Marine Cadets who
not only help the senior citizens but are their friendly companions for
the evening. There are a variety of citizens who take up this offer and
some have disabilities and others do not have access to transport which
restricts their mobility through the run up to Christmas. Over 65
attended the evening and there was a special treat when the band of the
Hemsby Marine Corps played carols at the end of the evening. The Club
would like to thank Mike Smith from Swift Taxis for supplying a coach to
collect shoppers from Martham and Hemsby.
The Community Service
Committee of the Club arranged for over 75 students and carers from the
John Grant School to attend a special production of Annie Warbucks at
the Marina Centre. As a result of a presentation by the school to the
club some weeks ago the members felt that they would like to offer the
students the opportunity to experience a theatre performance. So the
idea was born and Karen Thompson from Dusmagrik Theatre Company agreed
to run the show one day early. Robert Lovick Chairman of the Community
Service Committee said it was most satisfying to greet the students and
carers and to see their expression of enjoyment and gratitude throughout
the performance. |
