2009 Greyhound Night
One of the main fundraisers in the social calendar has been the Charity Greyhound Night held at the Great Yarmouth Stadium. February 2nd. It has proved to be very profitable enterprise in the past and this year proved to be no exception. President Robert Parker’s statement that he wanted to the Haven Club “to go to the dogs” could have been misinterpreted but thankfully Rotarians Michael Muskett and Robert Price understood his desires and dutifully organised the popular fundraising event on behalf of the Community Service Committee. The event was held at the recently refurbished Greyhound Stadium and Sponsors, Guests and Rotarians had the benefit of a choice of meal, drinks and the opportunity to place bets on the outcome of the races from the comfort of the Executive Lounge and Dining Room. They were able to watch the races from the lounge or outside. It was hardly surprising that no one ventured outside as the event just happened to fall on the same February day the UK came to a standstill as a result of forecasted snow storms. Luckily, apart form the cold and some rain and sleet, the locality was not affected and the event went ahead much to the relief of the organisers. So from the warmth of the Lounge everyone had a great time and the Rotary Charity coffers were increased by about £2800. The monies were made up of sponsorships, donations and the result of a raffle for which prizes were donated. Thanks are due to the following Sponsors: ACP Fish Merchants Aldreds Estate Agents Apollo Tavern Bombay Nights Restaurant Burlington Palm Hotel Erskine Electrical David Neve Builders Great Yarmouth Coachworks Garage Halls Group Jamison Christie Financial and Asset Management Kimco Properties L G Perfects PKF Accountants Potters Leisure Seagull Garage Sidegate Motors SPP Group T V Palmer Builders Vauxhall Holiday Park Thanks are also due to those generous donors of money and prizes for the event.
